Moses Magnum is born in Ethiopia.  When the Italians under Mussolini invade he sides against his
own people with the Italians.  The Italians are defeated and Magnum leaves for the United States where he becomes a United States citizen.

His cutthroat personality and moral ambiguity make him a great arms dealer and he eventually becomes the president of Deterence Research Corporation (DRC) a major manufacturer of weapons.  As an arms dealer Magnum battles Spider-Man, the Punisher and Luke Cage.  Both the battles with Luke Cage and Punisher seem to end in his demise.  However, he not only survives but comes back with a super power.

Apparently, Apocalypse rescued Magnum from his battle with Cage and gave him a super power nicknamed the "Magnum Force."  The Magnum Force is effectively seismic energy that can cause earth wakes that come from Magnum's hands.  On top of the seismic waves, Magnum also has super strength.

He is stopped from blowing up a floating resort by the Avengers and Triathalon.

A plot to take over the African Nation of Canaan was foiled by Deathlok and the Black Panther.  Moses Magnum army was wanted by authorities but he devises a plan to elude them.  His force enters and overtakes the nation of Canaan and Moses Magnum takes the power away from its ruler, King Baru to give himself diplomatic immunity.  Magnum then builds a team of high powered mercenaries including Killjoy and Phreak by offering them a vision of creating an African nation that African Americans can call home.  Moses decides to try to get military technology out of Wakanda and dispatches first Phreak then a robot called Terrordome.  Both fail after running into Deathlok and the Black Panther.  Deathlok manages to track the Terrordome back to Canaan and the pair of heroes go there.  T'Challa expects to confront Canaan's king Baru.  There they learn of Magnum's conquest but are forced to retreat back to Wakanda.  Not wanting the world to know about his conquest Magnum dispatches the cyber enhanced mercenary Killjoy into Wakanda to assassinate the Black Panther.  After a brutal battle the heroes manage to defeat Killjoy but are badly injured in the process.  Deathlok manages to get back into Canaan and defeat Moses Magnum himself.  Without Magnum at the helm the rest of his forces surrender.

At one point his powers are vastly enhanced by Tyrannus and, "Those Who Wield Power" and he threatens to sink Japan beneath the ocean if they do not pay his ransom.  He is stopped in this plot by the X-Men.

Control of seismic waves in his hands gives Magnum superhuman strength and durability.  He can also emit the waves as projectile like force that can cause great damage.

Over Magnum's criminal career he has battled a wide menagerie of heroes.  He has fought Spider-Man, the X-Men, Luke Cage, the Punisher, Black Panther, the Avengers, Triathlon, Daken, Ironman, Thor and Deathlok

What is the Eye of Agamotto?

What is the Eye of Agamotto

The Eye of Agamotto is one Doctor Strange's most powerful relics.  It is an item that has been used and passed down from Sorceror Supreme to Sorcerer Supreme all the way back to the original mystical entity Agamotto at the beginning of time.  The Eye is considered to be one of Strange's most powerful artifacts and is potentially the most powerful magical artifact in Earth's plane of existence.

The Eye of Agamotto will appear in the film Doctor Strange.  Images and commentary about the eye were shown at San Diego Comic Con 2016.

Alias: Eye of Infinity, Eye of Truth

The light from the eye can allow a user to:
Create a mystical shield
Create portals to other dimensions
See through disguises and illusions
See the past
Track ethereal and corporeal beings
Weakens evil beings such as demons, devils, undead, dark extra-dimensial beings, and human practitioners of the dark arts.
Can probe minds
Levitate objects
Create a suspended animation cage
Teleport a group to any point in the universe

Unknown.  There are theories that Agamotto either found it or that he created it.

Agamotto is still tied to the eye and it has been suggested that he records when it is used.

Video explaining the Eye of Agamotto.

Video of a custom made Eye of Agamotto.  Not sure who made this but I think its pretty amazing.

The Eye of Agamotto will appear in the movie Doctor Strange.

Kevin Fiege commented at San Diego Comic Con 2016 that the eye of Agamotto has some probability altering powers, effectively he says that the eye could alter Time.  This has led many to speculate that the Eye could be the Time Infinity Stone.  Most of the other Infinity stones have been revealed but not Time and Soul.  With his abundance of magical artifacts it seems natural for one of the stones to turn up in the Doctor Strange film.

As Strange in the comics draws upon many different magical power sources its possible we see a variety of colors based off what spell he is casting and where he is drawing the power for that spell from. One of the theories with the Eye of Agamotto is that when Doctor Strange has green glphys lighting up around him that he is using or drawing power from the Eye.  Evidence of this is in the picture of Strange having a green glyph appear from his hand the eye itself is also lit up with a similar green glow.

It seems quite possible that as Doctor Strange is a relative newcomber to the magical arts and that he is battling a seasoned sorcerer that he may need to lean on the Eye of Agamotto to even the odds against his adversaries.

At San Diego Comic Con 2016 the first close up picture of the Eye of Agamotto was released.

Initial Eye Speculation:
It has also been rumored that a eye like relic in the Treasure vault of Asgard in the Thor films is actually the Eye Agamotto.  This is actually not the Eye of Agamotto but another powerful magical artifact known as the Warlock's Eye.

Who is Umar? Marvel Wiki

Umar is a Marvel character that is appears in the adventures of Doctor Strange.  She is an enemy of Strange. She is known for being the demonic sister of Dormammu and one of his rivals in the Dark Dimension.

First Appearance: Doctor Strange  #150

Race:  Faltine

Umar is a member of the Faltine race, a group of higher-level, energy based life forms who come from a different dimension.  The Faltine typically spawn exact replicates of themselves but some how a Faltine named Sinnifer spawned two new and different children, Dormammu and Umar.
Amongst the Faltine Umar and her brother Dormammu are something of rebels for desiring physical form. The two new Faltine attempt to try to become physical but the Sinnifer tries to stop them.  They convert Sinnifer into physical matter, killing him. The two became physical in form. The other Faltine are horrified by this and force the two to leave the Faltine Dimension.

The two Faltine enter the Dark Dimension.  The Dark Dimension had been ruled for eons by a group of sorcerers called the Mhuruuks.  The Mhuruuk leader Oldnar was quickly seduced by ideas of the powerful Faltine.  The rogue Faltine showed the Mhuruuks how more between and conquer other dimension.  The Mhuruuks were tricked by Dormammu into opening a gate way to the dimension of the Mindless Ones.  The Mindless Ones are powerful creatures with an unquenchable thirst for destruction they poured into the Dark Dimension and slew many Mhuruuks.  Oldnar was slain by the Mindless ones leaving the Dark Dimension leaderless.  Dormammu and Umar fought a great battle and imprisoned the Mindless Ones behind a barrier.  Another battle was fought as Dormammu and Umar slew any of the remaining sorcerers and then took control of the Dimension. Umar had been weakened in these battles and was no longer a match for her brother.  Dormammu rose to lead the dimension with unrivaled power.

Umar had an affair with Oldnar son, Orini who had become a disciple of Dormammu.  Umar then had a child named Clea.  Umar found that after giving birth she was unable to turn into her energy Faltine form, and now far weaker than her brother.  Bitter at the cost, she wanted nothing to do with Orini or Clea.  Clea was raised by Orini and would eventually become a close ally of Doctor Strange.  She tried to battle her brother, but he easily banished her to a remote corner of the Dark Dimension.

Clea would help Doctor Strange defeat Dormammu. With Dormammu the spell banishing Umar was broken and she rushed backed into the Dark Dimension.  She found the found the Dimension left in chaos with the Mindless Ones having escaped.  She retrapped the Mindless Ones and took control of the Dark Dimension.  She then kidnapped Clea to lure Doctor Strange back into the Dark Dimension but Strange defeated her.

Umar had numerous schemes to try wrest control of the Dark Dimension but generally the dimension returned to control of Dormammu. She has also attacked Earth but is repelled from her assaults by Doctor Strange.

At one point Clea found out the truth of her parentage and wrested control of the Dark Dimension from Umar.  Despite having control of the dimension she desired to return to Earth.  Umar convinced Clea to leave her in charge.  For a time Umar and her consort Baron Mordo ruled the dimension in peace.  However, Dormammu tricked Clea and Doctor Strange to re-enter the dimension and removed them from power.

Vaste magical knowledge and spell casting capability
As a Faltine she had the ability to use her own energy for a variety of effect but this ability was reduced after giving birth to Clea.
Generally capable of such feats as time travel, dimensional travel, energy blasts, size changing, telepathy, mind control, animation, and illusion.

Her powers are enchanced when possession of the Flames of Regency an item held by the ruler of the Dark Dimension.

As of yet there has been no mention of Umar in the MCU.

New Mutants update from San Diego Comic Con

Are we actually going to talk about New Mutants the movie made by Fox in the Fox X-Men Universe that was meant to be released 2 years ago but waiting until 2020 for all theaters to shut down. Yes we are.
The movie was meant to come out in 2018.  It was rescheduled for 2019.  Now it is set to come out in 2020!  Are we actually going to see this movie.
The tagline they use is that New Mutants is coming out August 28th, 2020 --Fingers crossed.  In the age of the Pandemic Covid-19 that may be an accurate way to say it.

Over the time the New Mutants film has been waiting to come out the entire X-Men universe has become part of Disney which they bought out Fox.  I imagine the behind the scenes stories behind this film are as juicy as what is in the film itself.

The virtual San Diego Comic Con brought together the actors and Director Josh Boone to talk about the film and yes it does sound like its coming out this year.

Writer/Director Josh Boone and the cast of Twentieth Century Studios and Marvel Entertainment’s The New Mutants, including Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga discuss the upcoming original horror-thriller moderated by Ira Madison III.

Also revealed during the SDCC New Mutants meeting were promotional Emojis of the New Mutant characters.

Who are the New Mutants?

The New Mutants film is set in the Fox X-Men Universe but will has a very different.horror tone and stars many characters that have not appeared in any films before.  Just because some of these character are lesser known though don't think for a moment that they are 2nd rate.  Remember that Deadpool himself first appeared in New Mutants #98.  This film will likely stand on its own but it may have some easter eggs or ties to Deadpool 2.

Played by Maise Williams

A Scottish mutant, Wolfsbane possesses the ability to transform into a wolf or into a transitional state somewhere between human and wolf that is similar to a werewolf. She has honed her powers to shift between human and wolf characteristics but must keep her feral instincts at bay when she does.

Played by Anya Taylor Joy

Magik is the younger sister of the Russian X-Man Colossus. She is a member of a fictional sub-species of humanity known as mutants, who are born with superhuman abilities. Her natural mutant power is the ability to teleport. She also is a capable sorceress.

Played by Charlie Heaton

Cannonball is a mutant who uses the ability to fly at jet speeds while encased in an impenetrable force field. The eldest of a large Kentucky coal mining family, Cannonball is one of few X-Men from a southern, ruralbackground and has maintained the values of civility, hard work, and a strong commitment to his beliefs throughout his career as a superhero. Several of his siblings are also mutants and have joined X-Men-related teams, including his sisters, Paige and Melody, and brothers Jay and Jeb. Other siblings include a brother named Lewis, and four more sisters: Joelle, Elizabeth, Cissie and another unnamed sister.

Cannonball was a founding member of the X-Men's junior team The New Mutants. He joined The New Mutants' later incarnation X-Force, serving as second-in-command and field leader. He joined the X-Men, becoming the first member of a secondary team to "graduate". His tenure was complicated by clashes with superiors and he eventually rejoined X-Force and later the X-Men once more.

Cannonball  Promo:

Played by Henry Zaga

A Brazilian mutant, Sunspot possesses the ability to absorb and channel solar power. He is idealistic and impulsive, but is considered a close friend of many of his teammates. He was an important member of the X-Men’s 1980s-era junior team and its reincarnation X-Force.

Danielle Moonstar / Mirage

Played by Blue Hunt

A mutant, Moonstar originally possessed the psionic/psychic ability to telepathically create illusions of her opponents' fears or wishes. She later developed a wide range of psionic and energy manipulation powers. She also developed some magical abilities after a series of adventures in Asgard. She was a member of the X-Men's 1980s junior team the New Mutants and, after a long absence, its reincarnation X-Force.

Promo for Moonstar:

Dr Cecililia Reyes
Played by Alice Braga

Dr. Cecililia Reyes is a mutant who turned down Xavier's offer to join him.  She went on to become a doctor on her own.  In this film she seems to have a secret agenda and likely not a good one.

Josh Boone teased on Instagram that the New Mutants trailer is going to come out on Friday, October 13th.    A seeming fitting day for a comic book film that is said to be heavily influenced by horror:

Boone released the following tease:

FROM THE VAULT: Strange Tales #180 - First appearance of Gamora! and a whole lot more!

Review of Strange Tales #180 First Appearance of Gamora

Strange Tales #180 is one of my most favorite comics in the Toylab Vault.  Taking it out to check out is going to be a real joy.  This comic is special in a lot of ways and its value reflects this.  Depending on Quality this comic can be worth between $40 and a $1,000.  We happen to have a really good copy of this book.

Claims to Fame:

I also think this story could be used as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 story.    If Warlock is in Guardians 2 then the Universal Church of Truth would be a natural villain of choice.

This story focuses primarily on Adam Warlock learning more about himself and his future evil self known as the Magus.  Warlock is tricked by the Matriarch of the Universal Church of Truth into a trap.  He wants to learn more about himself but unfortunately he learns something terrible.  Warlock learns that he destined to become the Magus who is the founder of the Universal Church of Truth an evil organization.

Warlock has learned that he can not remove the soul gem from his brow without becoming greatly weakened.  It seems the gem has begun leeching off of his own soul.

As he is tricked into a trap he falls into a kind of court led by a alien judge named Kray-Tor.

To my knowledge this is the only appearance of Kray-Tor.  I kind of like him he is a big weird looking alien.  Kray-Tor is part of an evil inquisition part of the Church that seeks out and eliminates its detractors with ruthless intolerance.

Warlock quickly realizes the trial is rigged against him.  Seeing Kray-Tor and the Universal Church of Truth for what it is, hypocrytical evil he makes a fateful choice.  He uses the Soul Gem to absorb Kray-Tor's life force into it.  This gives Warlock both Kray-Tor's energy and his memories.

Using this power is of course a fateful decision.  The same power that Warlock uses to vanquish evil is the same one that will eventually convert him into the evil version of himself.  Ironically, he is facing an evil that he will one day create.

 Gamora's first appearance:
At the end of the book Pip the Troll wanders into a bar to order a drink.  (Fun note: Pip always eats/drinks some form of poop)  He is annoyed that he lost Adam Warlock.  He feels somewhat abandoned by the hero.  He is then met by a dangerous green woman who is eager to find Adam Warlock herself.  This of course is the deadly assassin Gamora!

Gamora's first appearance here is pretty good, you can see her design very well. The next appearance is even better.  You actually do not learn her name until the next book Strange Tales #181.

In the next of Strange Tales (Strange Tales #181) Gamora reappears and gives her famous line.

"I go by many names my tick ridden Troll, but I'm sure the one that Black Knight knew me by is....
Gamora the Deadliest Woman in the Whole Galaxy!"

Damn that's some good stuff!

Here is the full panel where Gamora and Pipp confront a member of the Black Knights to learn the location of Adam Warlock.

Jim Butcher - Peace Talks Updates

In the fantasy literary world right now there are two books that are commonly talked about.  The first is the next Game of Thrones and the 2nd is Jim Butcher's Peace Talks.  Butcher had been a methodical, novel making machine as he cranked out nearly one Dresden File Novel a year up until.......Peace Talks.  Seriousily between 2000 and 2015 Butcher has written 15 Dresden Files books along with 6 Codex Alera novels and other projects.

Then after 2015 ......there was a pause.  Various theories have been posited.  Jim was building a house, Jim was having personal issues, health issues.  To me the real issue was that Jim spoiled all of his fans by being so perfect for so long.  I am biased I have ran into Jim now at numerous cons and have found him extremely likeable, down to Earth guy.

At any rate I am happy to report that I have some info on when Peace Talks will be coming.  Not immediately by any means but the wait is coming to an end.

UPDATE: July 14 2020 - Looky Looky
Have some fun readying to do!  Lets get Peaceful!
Let the Peace Talks Commence!

UPDATE: June 11 2020 -
Cover for new Peace Talks novel by Jim Butcher

Even bigger news is that Peace Talks has been turned into two books!  The first book called Peace Talks will come out July 14th and the 2nd book called Battlegrounds will come out in September 29th.

Peace Talks Synopsis:

When the Supernatural nations of the world meet up to negotiate an end to ongoing hostilities, Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, joins the White Council's security team to make sure the talks stay civil. But can he succeed, when dark political manipulations threaten the very existence of Chicago—and all he holds dear?

Both books can now be preordered through Amazon.

Double book Announcement:
The fact that two books will be released was announced in a cool Dresden Trailer that you can check out above.

On top of the awesome trailer and the massive announcement I also found this interview with Jim Butcher for those who want more information.

UPDATE May 2019:
Small Update: There are some small Spoilers about Peace Talks in a short story Butcher penned and released on his site for Christmas.  You can read about it here:

Jim Butcher's Christmas Eve Story

As for Peace Talks....

Current Projection for Peace Talks  Late 2019

Sorry Dresden fans I just moved back the Peace Dates Timeline to late 2019 and I am really thinking the appropriate date may be early 2020.  I am going to hold off on making that change just yet.

Update from site:

With this news I would say an early 2019 release is not in the card.  I am going to change projection to late 2019 however it seems that 2020 is becoming more likely.  The good news there is 39 Chapters and that is quite a bit.  If you read the Christmas Eve story you can also see that Jim has a very good idea as to where he is going with the story.  However, even once complete it will take time to through the publishing process.

The best source I had before this came from an interview.
This is the last real news I have heard:  Jim Butcher interview
Currently, Butcher’s putting the finishing touches on Peace Talks, the sixteenth book in the series. Peace Talks is slated for an early 2019 release.
I have also heard Jim is getting married in Sep and would like to have a draft to his publisher before he is married.  With production times and other phases of a book an early 2019 release would seem to make sense.  This is if everything goes smoothly.  Hey yes I know its been awhile but lets all hope for smooth sailing.

Toylab's Original Projection Late 2018

Personally I think Jim is just a genius marketer because this book is now going to be legendary no matter what he puts out.

While Peace Talks is not yet here, Jim has released Dresden short stories called Brief Cases.  You can read about that below:

Brief Cases
Jim first has finished up a book of Dresden Files short stories called Brief Cases that was released on  June 5th of 2018.  Brief Cases is very cool you can read its Synopsis below.

The world of Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, is rife with intrigue–and creatures of all supernatural stripes. And you’ll make their intimate acquaintance as Harry delves into the dark side of truth, justice, and the American way in this must-have short story collection.
From the Wild West to the bleachers at Wrigley Field, humans, zombies, incubi, and even fey royalty appear; ready to blur the line between friend and foe. In the never-before-published ‘Zoo Day,’ Harry treads new ground as a dad, while fan-favorite characters Molly Carpenter, his onetime apprentice, White Council Warden Anastasia Luccio, and even Bigfoot stalk through the pages of more classic tales.
With twelve stories in all, Brief Cases offers both longtime fans and first-time readers tantalizing glimpses into Harry’s funny, gritty, and unforgettable realm, whetting their appetites for more to come from the wizard with a heart of gold.

Lets take a moment to Praise and Congratulate Jim.

Alot of the these "Where are Peace Talks" posts miss the boat in that they turn negative on Jim Butcher.  My opinion is that if Jim never writes another book he has given me and all Dresden fans a MASSIVE gift.  He does not owe me anything.  I've had the privilge of running into him at a few events and he is just a pure salt of the Earth good dude.  While I would love another book I am not going to let me desire for something to turn me into a negative nancey troll (And you should not either!).

Also lets Congratulate Jim for his recent gorgeous wedding.

Jim was recently married in Fall of 2018 in Colorado in a.......castle.  Congratulations Mr and Mrs Butcher!  You can see the pair had a wedding that you would expect from the author of the Dresden Files:  I think Harry would approve.

Couple more fun Jim Butcher Tidbits:

Here is another fun video showing who Jim is that I really enjoy.
If you can't wait that long here is story from Jim about how he got into a bar fight in Houston.

Here are some of my favorite Dresden File Covers:
I really have enjoyed how these covers are consistent in terms of aesthetic and awesomeness.  It really has lent to uniting the series.  They are also just plain awesome.
