Bio:
Speedball is best known as the fun and a tad silly hero who was a member of the 90's New Warriors.

Robbie Baldwin is irradiated with an unknown form of energy and gains a special mutagenic power.  Baldwin is able to create a kinetic energy bubble around himself.  Baldwin kinetic energy bubble grows in strength based off the energy thrown at it.  Thus the powerful the blow, or blast hurled at him the stronger this shell becomes.  The shell can cause Baldwin to blast around quickly and at first uncontrollably.  Overtime he was able to practice and train to the point where he could consciously control his power, as well as the direction of his movements.

Baldwin begins to use the name Speedball.  After a short solo career and a team up with Spider-Man, he becomes a founding member of the New Warriors.  The heroes met in a battle stop a rampaging Terrax and afterward decided to form the team.  The New Warriors have many adventures together.  Speedball is best known for his long stint with the New Warriors team.  The New Warriors leader Night Thrasher trains Speedball to use his power better and with more accuracy.  On the New Warriors team Speedball forms a close freindship with Rage and Nova.  He later has a romantic relationship with Timeslip.

Civil War / Penance:

The New Warriors team attempts to stop a villain named Nitro in Stamford Connecticut.  Nitro creates an enormous blast that kills 612 civilians as well as the entire New Warriors team other than Speedball.  This event kicks off the registration effort to classify all super heroes and villains by the government and Iron Man.  Iron Man is opposed in this super hero Civil War by Captain America.  Speedball himself feels terrible for his role in the Stamford Massacre.  He is shot in an attempted assination attempt and his powers begin to change.  He finds that infliction of wounds can cause him release energy and creates a suit with 612 internal spikes that drive into his flesh.  This self mutiliation allows him to create energy blasts.  With his new suit he begins to use the moniker of Penance.

Baldwin's Speedball powers have now returns and he now is using a new Speedball suit as opposed to the Penance one.

Powers:

Speedball - Kinitic Shell that allows him to bounce around without harm.  He gain increased momentum and durability as more energy/power is hurled against him.

Penance - Could create energy from wounds either from others or from self infliction and create energy blasts.

Agents of SHIELD:

Speedball is a character that is rumored to appear in Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD.  It is possible he will be mentioned in one of the Caterpillar files provided by Coulson to Skye.

Rumors are that actor and Whedonverse alum (Doll Fran Kranz could play the hero.  Fran tweeted out a tweet that mentioned Robbie Baldwin (Speedball's real name).  He then deleted the tweet.

Speed Ball has yet to appear on the show however rumors do still persist.

From The Vault - Quasar #32 - First Appearance of Korath

Please Share and Follow us on Twitter!

Quasar #32 from some reason mine has a #1

FROM THE VAULT

The Toylab Vault holds a large collection of comic books and every once in a while one is pulled out, and dusted off.  Lets see what secrets it holds...

Today we are going to look at the comic Quasar #32 it is mostly an overlooked book.  I actually bought it years after it came out for a  measly $1.40.  Which is nothing considering a few of the interesting things that happen in the book.

The appearance of Korath the Pursuer is a major part of this book in terms of investing.  Korath has appeared in the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and is now going to make his second major appearance in the film Captain Marvel.

The numbering #1 or #32:
One bizarre thing on this book is that it was sold on stands with a #1 on it.  This was to represent the #1 of Galactic Storm an event it was leading into.  However people who were getting Quasars received a copy with #32.  Just for giggles I own both a #1 and a #32 I do not know which is more rare.  I personally had more trouble finding a copy with #32 on it.

Historical Significance:
First appearance of Korath the Pursuer
First Kree and Shi'Ar war
Also one of the first appearances of the Shi'Aar imperial guard.

Story Summary:
The bulk of the story concerns Quasar paling around with StarFox going to the tomb of Mar Vel.  There they run into a couple of trouble makers from the Kree empire Captain Atlas and Dr Minerva.  They inform Quasar that the Kree and the Shi'ar are now at war.  This is the beginning of the first  Kree Shi'Ar war.  The two are at Mar Vel's tomb to retrieve Mar Vel's Nega Bands.  Which will be used later to create the massive Negabomb.

Quasar quickly subdues the two interlopers however he is then immediately attacked.by what seems to be the entire Shi'Ar Imperial Guard.  These end up being illusions.

The real interesting thing in this comic happens in two pages in middle of the book. We leave the action at Mar Vel's tomb and enter a factory on the edge of the Kree empire.  An angry cyber geneticist named Korath-Thak is disgruntled.  He is has been placed as a lowly foreman in a factory on the fringe of the massive Kree empire.    Apparently, the new leaders of the Kree empire who took over for the Supreme Intelligence did not see the value of Korath's Pursuer Project.  Not one to take things lying down Korath uses his technology on himself turning himself into the super human Korath the Pursuer.
