New D&D book the Ghosts of SaltmarshComing May 21st is a new Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition book that focuses on the sea. The company previousily released an unofficial rules in their Unearthed Aracana section called Of Ships and the Sea that I have been using to set up some Ocean fairing adventures for the Companions of the Silver Apple with. I would highly recommend checking out the Unearthed Arcana as I have found it very useful in setting up the stats and lore of a few ships. I will release the stats and lore of some of the ships of the Companions of the Silver Apple campaign later so stay tuned for that.
The new book promises to bring not just ship and ocean rules though but also will bring a variety of sea adventures from the past system to the current 5th edition rules. This does not appear to be a book with a long campaign style adventure but rather a menagerie of ocean adventures like an ocean version of Tales of the Yawning Portal. That said the description does say that DM's can run the full Saltmarsh adventures like a full campaign. My guess is that most will pull from it as needed for an ocean adventure. The bulk of these adventures come from the Dungeon Magazine back in Dungeons and Dragons first edition.
The book also comes with details and make up of the port town of Salt Marsh which can be used as the staging ground for the included adventures. It also comes with its own magic items and monsters.
The book looks awesome I can't wait to read it and do a full review of it.
