X-O Manowar #21 has the most beautiful interior panels I have seen this year!

There is a common sales practice in the comic industry of having extraordianary art on a cover that is often far better than what is found in the interior.   This makes sense.  The cover is what comic fans see while perusing the shelves and is often what sells the comic.

Well X-O Manowar flips this on the head in that the interior art is so out there! so amazing! so F#%#! INSANE! that it by far exceeds the covers.  Yes, I did say covers with an S.  This comic has three covers and the interior art is better than all of them.  I don't think the covers are bad at all either.  The issue here is entirely stemming from how awesome the interior art is.  The interiors are just that awesome.

I had no idea who Juan Jose Ryp was prior to this comic but after seeing this he is on the list of artists I am going to follow.  He uses heavy detailing, and vibrant colors to show all of the X-O Manowar characters engaged in battle and Holy Pluto its gorgeous!

Check  out the preview art below and let me know what you think.

How do you beat Sneasel and Weavile in Pokemon Go?

Please Share and Follow us on Twitter!

How to beat Sneasel and Weavile

Sneasel / Weavile are an intimidating Pokemon that is a fierce attacker but tends to have fairly weak defense.  Due to it not having great defense I don't see too many people using it as gym defender but its possible.  There are not too many  Ice or Dark  pokemon in Gen 1 of Pokemon Go making Sneasel /Weavile automatically interesting as he is hybrid of both of those types.

Sneasel has been released into Pokemon Go with the Gen 2 release.  Weavile will not be released until likely Gen 4.  I imagine Weavile will automatically be one of the tougher Pokemon with that release.

About Sneasel and Weavile:

"Weavile, the Sharp Claw Pokémon. It signals its companions by using its claws to leave mysterious markings on the surfaces of trees and ice." Dawn's pokedex entry on episode DP040.
Sneasel /Weavile are  Dark and Ice hybrid type of Pokemon.  Weavile is the evolved form of Sneasel.  Sneasel is a Gen 2 Pokemon and Weavile came out in Gen 4.

Sneasel Toy:
Sneasel is pretty hard to find but looks very cool.

Now for the ultimate question!  How do you beat, kill, defeat Weavile.  What Pokemon is a counter Weavile?

Sneasel and Weavile are Dark / Ice Pokemon and they have an inherit weakness to Steel.  There are not very many Steel pokemon in Gen 1 but Gen 2 has some great options to consider.

Scizor
Scizor

The best Pokemon to take on Weavile or Sneasel is Scizor.  Particulary a Scizor with the move Bullet Punch which is a steel move.    Scizor is a bug and steel hybrid.  Scizor is also expected to be an all around powerful pokemon which I think will make it hard to beat as a counter.

Steelix

Most Steel Pokemon will do well against Sneasel and Weavile I would recommend trying Steelix as well.  While I don't expect Steelix to do as well as Scizor I think it will be more common and available to use.  Especially since many have already captured many Onix in Gen 1.

The Mighty Thor!

Thor is Marvel hero pulled out of Norse Mythology.  The Marvel Thor is very similar to his folklore countpart but in Marvel he interacts with super heroes.  Thor also brings parts of his mythology to the Marvel Universe such as his home Asgard, father Odin, and villainous brother Loki.  While in folklore terms Thor is considered a god, in Marvel he tends to be depicted more as an inter-dimensional alien with great powers.

Thor is played by actor Chris Hemmsworth in the MCU.  Thor has appeared in the films Thor, Thor: The Dark World, The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and is set to appear n Thor: Ragnarok.

Species: Asgardian

First Appearance:
Thor is one of the initial members of the Avengers.  Thor first appeared in Marvel comics in "Journey into Mystery" #83 in 1962.   Stan Lee claimed he was added to the Marvel Universe so that the Hulk could have a powerful adversary.

Thor is a member of the near immortal Asgard race deemed gods in Norse Mythology.  His Father is Odin, primary god and leader of the Norse Pantheon, his mother Gaea goddess of the Earth.  The Gaea relationship is unique to the comic Thor and explains some of his affinity for Midgard / Earth.  He grows up with close companions Sif and Balder.  He later forms a romantic relationship with Sif.

Thor is nearly immortal, he has lived for a long time and had countless adventures prior to his modern Marvel adventures.  He comes to Earth as a punishment for his arrogance.  Odin casts Thor down to Earth due to his arrogant and insolent behavior to live as an ordinary man.

Thor lives for a period of time as Donald Blake a doctor.  Donald Blake is a partially disabled medical student.  Due to the spell/enchantment used on Thor he does not remember being Thor. When he becomes a doctor he takes a trip to Norway where he witnesses an alien invasion scout party.  Running into a cave he finds Thor's hammer that is disguised as a walking stick.  When the walking stick is struck against a rock and he turns into the Mighty Thor.  He crushes the aliens to smithereens.

Thor lives a double life in the early stories sharing one body with Donald Blake.  He helps the sick as a doctor while being Donald Blake.  Working as he doctor he works alongside his future love interest the nurse Jane Foster.  Eventually, Thor learns the truth of how he was cast down from Asgard.  Seeing that Thor has learned humility Odin summons his son back.  However, Thor refuses.  He has fallen in love with both Jane Foster and Earth and has decided to stay.

Later, Thor's memory of Foster are erased and rejoins a former relationship with the warrior goddess, Sif.

Thor's adopted brother, Loki is a constant nemesis and sometimes ally.  Loki is responsible for the creation of an array of super villains that go on to battle Thor and the Avengers.  Loki is also behind a scheme to use the Hulk as a weapon that bring together the super group the Avengers.  Thor is a founding member of the Avengers.  He has since been part in one way or another every major Avengers series.  He is considered to be one of the heavy weight Avengers from a powers perspective.

Thor first battles then befriends an alien with similar powers named Beta Ray Bill.  The two become close friends and have many adventures with each other.

Thor goes on to fight epic battles against the powerful creatures of the nine realms. Avenger villains, as well as massive cosmic villains.

Female Thor and Unworthy Thor (spoilers)

Nick Fury gains the powers of Watcher.  In order to disarm Thor he walks up to Thor whispers to him.  The whisper is enough to cause doubt in Thor and he suddenly finds himself unable to hold up his Hammer.  A woman then comes and picks up the hammer to become the new female Thor.  This woman is later revealed to be Jane Foster.  Jane is dying from cancer in part from her transformation into Thor.  Jane serves on the Avengers as Thor.  Thor now goes by Odinson as he feels he is unworthy of his own namesake.  Odinson begins to use his magic axe instead of his hammer but the depowered Odinson is quickly attacked by his old enemy Malekith.  Malekith cuts off one of Odinson's arms and keeps it as a trophy.  Odin has Thor provided with a new arm made of Uru metal.

Thor learns of another Hammer in the universe and sets out to retrieve it against others who would choose to use it for themselves.  He is aided in his quest by Beta Ray Bill.  During the story Thor finally reveals what Nick Fury whispered said to cause doubt about his worthiness.  Nick Fury said,

"Gorr was right"

Gorr was a villain called the God Butcher who died in battle with Thor.  Gorr's main point was that all gods were bad and that they took credit for things they did not do and in the end would cause more harm than help.  By saying Gorr was right it seemed to cause enough doubt to seep into Thor's mind that he was no longer worthy to hold his hammer.  Thor comes to the conclusion that he no longer requires the other Hammer from the Ultimate Universe who leaves it to a mysterious character who called himself War Thor.

Thor Comic News:

Notable Friends and Allies:

Notable Villains:

Powers:
Thor is very powerful, and has knocked out and beaten powerful opponents such as the Silver Surfer and the Gladiator.  Generally, battles with the Hulk and Thor end in a standstill.   At times he has been shown to have the use of the full powers of Odin (Called the Odin Force) making him literally god like.

Strength - Thor is considered the strongest of all the Asgardians.  The average Asgardian is said to be able to lift up to 30 tons.    Thor's limit of strength is not clear but it is clearly far above 30 tons.  His feats of strength are insane.  Thor's full strength punch is capable of shattering and destroying a planet. He has also lifted Asgard with ease with the help from Beta Ray Bill.   He can also enter a berserker rage like state called berserkergang or Warrior Madness where his strength goes up by a magnitude of 10 times but in this state he crazy and will attack anyone who get in his way.
On top of this Thor wears a belt of strength that magically doubles his strength and endurance.

Super Endurance- Can fight for months without feeling fatigue

Nearly Invulnerable, very durable

Immortality - Thor derives extended lifespan from consuming the apples from the goddess Idun.  He has already lived a millennia.  Time moves differently for Asgardians than it does humans and in some ways he is much younger than his age would indicate.  It is difficult to translate Thor's life into human years because the Asgardian experience is so different.   While Thor has gathered up immense amount knowledge over his millennia he often acts like a rash teenager.  He can simultaneously act heroic and self sacrificing, while being bull headed and arrogant.

Super regeneration - Can even regenerate limbs and organs

Immune to diseases and to some magic

As the Norse god of weather he can control natural weather, lighting and storms.  He can also at times control the Earth creating canyons and Earth quakes through the powers of his mother Gaea.

Force Projections - Thor has been shown to need his hammer to project these forces:
Godblast - Emits an ultra powerful blast that uses some of Thor's Life Force.
Thermoblast- Heat blast
Anti Force Blast - Counter acts an imposing force

Flight - Can fly using his hammer, and even travel at faster than light speeds in space.

Dimensional travel

Martial Skills and Intelligence - Thor can be brash but he does possess many, many, many years of battle experience.

Who is Krugarr?

Who is Krugarr?

Krugarr is a magic using alien that is encountered by the 31st century version of the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Krugarr wears the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme after recieving tutelage from Doctor Strange.
Krugarr appears in the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 as a red alien who is friends with Stakar Ogord aka Starhawk.  Krugarr is a CGI character and is not played by any actor.  No actor voices for Krugarr as he communicates by visually creating a mandela spell in the film.

Species: Lem

First Appearance (691):  Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1 (1991)
First Appearance (616):  Quasar #39 (1992)

Krugarr News:

Quote:  "So Speaks Krugarr" Krugarr

Bio:
The events of Krugarr are most known in the Marvel Universe of 691 that is not the main continuity of 616.  However,  Krugarr was shown to exist within 616 in Quasar 39 (1992)  making it possible that he would have a similar life in many universes.

Krugarr is born and lives on the world of Lem. His species the Lem have the same name as his home world. The Lem are a worm like species that have no mouths but can communicate by creating vibrations sound that can be heard by humans.  The Lem are said to be very long lived creatures and the true age of Krugarr is not known.

Krugarr met with Doctor Stephen Strange in the 22nd Century and agreed to become his apprentice.  Krugarr becomes the new Sorcer Supreme.  While Doctor Strange is training Krugarr he uses the title of Ancient One similar to his former master.  Doctor Strange is killed in a battle with Dormammu leaving the mantle of Sorcerer Supereme to Krugarr.

As the Sorcerer Supreme Krugarr has access to many of the same spells and artifacts of Doctor Strange and must also guard the world against Dormammu whom he battles.  Krugarr divides his time between the Magic Mansion of Doctor Strange and his home world of Lem.

In the 31st Century he has dealing with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Galatic Guardians.  He is a friend with Hollywood (Wonderman in the 691 universe).  He heals Major Victory after the latter was shot in the head and he also send Hollywood to help evacuate the world of Mainframe after that world is caught in a disaster.

Krugarr has difficulty finding his own apprentice after his preferred choice the Inhuman Talon fails to take his studies seriousily.

Powers:

As a Lem Krugarr has amazing longevity that far exceeds the human life capacity.  This longevity could also be enhanced by his magical gifts making Krugarr nearly ageless.

Krugarr is considered high intelligent and a fast learner much like Doctor Strange himself.

Krugarr has access to the spells and artifacts of the sorcerer supreme Doctor Strange and can thus summon much of the same spells.

MCU
Krugarr appears in the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 as a red alien who is friends with Stakar Ogord aka Starhawk.  Krugarr is a CGI character and is not played by any actor.  No actor voices for Krugarr as he communicates by visually creating a mandela spell in the film.

Krugarr appears in a short scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. He is part of the small group of former heroes led by Stakar. Along with Krugarr are Charlie 27, Mainframe, Aleta, and Martinex.
This version of Krugarr seems to comminicate by using spells to create pictures of light between his fingers.  He uses this ability to show enthuisiasm for rejoining with his team mates in a scene at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2.

James Gunn elaborated on his Facebook how Krugarr was designed and added into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.  Gunn is definetly not ignoring the magical side of Krugarr.  I will be curious to see if any connection between Krugarr and Doctor Strange is shown in Avengers Infinity War or Avengers 4.

When designing creatures and spaceships and planets and prosthetics for a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, we go through many hundreds of designs - thousands in all. For instance, I woke up one morning with a realization I wanted to put Krugarr into a post-credits scene of Guardians Vol. 2 (I'll leave it at that for those of you who haven't seen the movie). Krugarr is a little-known character in the Marvel universe, but I loved the idea of an utterly alien, mute character who was only able to speak through interstellar emojis. He (she?) does speak more conventionally in the comics, but I wanted to add a more extraterrestrial strain to the character so that she (it?) could be a few more steps removed from humanity than Groot. In the comics, Krugarr is also a sorcerer, so it could be a way of adding an occult element into the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Who is Alpha on the Walking Dead?

Who is Alpha?

Alpha is the leader of group known as the Whispers in the Walking Dead comics.  She has not yet appeared in the television series.  She has a distinctive look with a bald head.  Samantha Morton Actress from "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", will play Alpha in The Walking Dead season 9.

An older theory was that the character of Jadis played by Pollyana McIntosh will become Alpha in a later season (More on this below).

Affiliation:  Whisperers

First Appearance: The Walking Dead #132

Family:
Lydia - Daughter

Quote:
"We are animals, Negan. Civilization is a myth. That is the truth this world has taught us. We have not risen above our baser instincts... that is what always has and always will drive us. That... ugliness you saw back there? Don't look away... stare into it... see what we are. That is the only way to free yourself."  Alpha discussing the Whispers philosophy with Negan.

Comic Bio:
The life of Alpha prior to the zombie apocalypse is mysterious.  Some people think she could have been in a highly educated profession like a psychologist or doctor due to the manner in which she is able to analyze people and speak.  At some point Alpha is with a group of survivors who turn into the Whisperers.  It is unknown if she creates the philosophy of the Whisperers or simply takes over the group but she seems to be champion of the Whisperer way of life when confronted by Rick and the Communities.

To Alpha the Whisperer way of life is both the future and past of humanity.  She believes the problems of humanity in the apocalypse are the result of humans not accepting themselves as animals and the might makes right rule of nature.  The Whisperers thus live outside without any form of Shelter and seek to be strong.  They strive to show no emotion as they deem it weak.  Rape and killing are acceptable means of showing strength over the week.  Alpha even allows her own daughter to be repeatedly raped as she hopes this will make her stronger.  The Whisperers create suits made of the dead so they can walk among the dead.  They use armies of the dead as walls and weapons against other survivors by directing herds from the inside.  They manage to tame a massive ocean of the dead as the ultimate weapons against other survivors.  They brutally stake out their border and kill anyone who crosses it without giving any warning.

Alpha has a loyal 2nd in command by the name of Beta.  Beta is less of philosopher than Alpha but is physically imposing.  Alpha is occasionally challenged for leadership but manages to kill those who challenge her.  Alpha tells Beta directly that she believes he could choose to assert his dominance over her however he never has.  Instead, Beta seems to idolize Alpha and is her right hand man.

Alpha begins to meet the communities after a confrontation with them.  Her daughter is Lydia is taken during the fighting.  She brings a Whisper force to Hilltop and trades for two of the community survivors for her daughter.  Carl has befriended Lydia and wants her to stay.  He follows the Whispers and is taken captive by them.  Alpha uses the capture of Carl to learn more about the communities.  She goes undercover to investigate them further.  When she returns Rick has come for Carl.  The two discuss the philosophies of life.  To her the communities are a shrine to a past way of living and are in denial of the true nature of life.  However, when confronted about the rapes of her daughter, Lydia breaks down in tears.  This sign of weakness forces Alpha to let Lydia to go with Rick and Carl.  She hopes Lydia will grow stronger away from the Whisperers.  After Lydia leaves Alpha breaks down, one of the Whisperers comes to comfort her and she cuts off his head so that no one can see that she had a moment of weakness.

Death:

Negan escapes and lives among the Whisperers for a short time.  There he claims to be infatuated with Alpha much to her consternation.  Seeing the rapes in the Whisper camp horrifies Negan and after a short discussion on philosophy he cuts off Alpha's head.  He then brings the head with him back to the communities.

Beta and the other Whisperers find the headless corpse of Alpha and quickly put two and two together that Negan killed her.  One of the Whisperers comments that Negan is not there to claim the mantle of Alpha.  Beta says that he would never have allowed that in the first place and that no one should ever have that mantle again.  He leads the Whispers to war in an attempt to "Kill everyone".

Adversaries:

The Walking Dead Season 9

Actress Samantha Morton plays Alpha in Season 9 of the Walking Dead.  She is effectively Season 9's big bad.

We will add more pictures and video of Samantha playing Alpha as Season 9 comes out.

In a trailer released by AMC the first glimpses of the Whispers are shown.  In the Trailer Beta can clearly be seen but what about Alpha.  There is one shot of a woman from the back, who has a bald head.  Many believe this is the first picture of Alpha on the show. It is hard to say but the picture of a bald woman walking among the undead does certainly fit the bill as Alpha.  At the very least I would say she is being teased with that shot.

Is Jadis really Alpha? No.
The Heapsters are their own group.

Jadis is a leader of a group called the Heapsters.

Rick encounters a group of militaristic survivors who live in junk yard.  This group is lead by an authoritative woman named Jadis.  Jadis talks in a similar manner as Alpha but it is not bald and her followers do not where walker skin suits.  The group calls it self the Heapsters.  The group is shown to be very large.

Some believe that the character of Jadis played by Pollyana McIntosh will become Alpha in a later season.  The group set up a test for Rick in which he retrieved guns.  They also sent Rick in a gladitorial like battle with a modified walker named Winslow.

After Rick defeated the walker "Winslow" the group agreed to join Rick in battling the Saviors on the condition they would be given more fire arms.

It is unclear if the Heapsters will become the Whisperers or if they are an entirely different group.

Similarities with the comic Whisperers:

  • Large group
  • Live militaristic philiopshy that emphasizes strength
  • Led by strong authoritative female leader

An alternative theory is that the Heapsters are just the Heapsters but that the Wolves will reemerge as the Whisperers.

Who is Thanos?

Thanos is a major villain in the Marvel Universe.  He is bent on the destruction and end of all things.  He is closely associated with an item called the infinity gauntlet that grants its user near omnipotent powers.  He is hunted down and opposed by the hero Drax the Destroyer.

Bio:
There is Big, there is Bad and then there is Thanos...

http://dreager1.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/2612854-thanos_strangling_mephisto.jpg

Thanos the name in Greek means either Death or Eternal.  Either is an appropriate description of the character Thanos.

Thanos is the biggest of the big bads that Marvel has.   While other villains want to get rich, or conquer the world, Thanos wants to literally end existence in a bid to get Mistress Death to give him attention.

He is super strong, intelligent, ruthless, telepathic and powerful and a master of a variety of scientific and mystical arts that make him one of toughest warriors in the Marvel Universe.  To get to the powerlevel of destroying life Thanos seeks out the infinity gems which greatly augment his powers.

Thanos's fellow Titans realize the threat Thanos poses to existence and so they create a hero whose sole purpose is to oppose and destroy Thanos.  Thanos's father, Mentor takes the soul of a victim of Thanos and creates Drax the Destroyer.  Drax is given a powerful body and desires only vengeance on Thanos.  Unknown to Drax, Mentor also saved his daughter and raised her on Titan, she later emerges  as the hero, Moondragon.

Thanos wipes out the race known as the Zen Whoberi.  He takes the last offspring of the species names her Gamora and raises her as a daughter.  He is not a kind father but instead trains Gamora to be tough and ruthless.  Working for her father as an assassin she gains the reputation of the most dangerous woman in the galaxy.  She later betrays Thanos and becomes one of his most stalwart enemies.

His search, battle and eventual getting the God like power of the infinity gauntlet were the story of a few major Marvel events.  Thanos has been killed a few times, only to be brought back.

During Thanos Imperative the Guardians of the Galaxy actually bring him back to life so as an avatar of Death he can face off against an evil world where there is only life.

Relatives:
  • Mentor - Father
  • Gamora - Adopted daughter
  • Nebula - Claims to be biological daughter in the comics (disputed by Thanos).  She is an adopted daughter of Thanos in the MCU.
  • The Dark Order

Creation:
Thanos is one of the creations of comic writer Jim Starlin.  Jim Starlin was taking psychology courses at the time and conceived of Drax the Destroyer and Thanos.  Thanos being a villain infatuated with death and Drax being character created to destroy him.   Given a chance to write for Iron Man he threw both characters into the story.  Initially, Thanos was somewhat skinny, Starlin had based his design of him off of Metron one of the new gods at DC.  Editor Roy Thomas looked at the design and suggested he beef up Thanos and copy the better new god Dark Siege.  For this reason Thanos and Darkseid are both similar looking and serve a similar role as the super bad and power villain.  The similarity is pretty well known.  During one universe cross over event the similarity is even referenced with Darkseid finds the infinity gauntlet.  Lucky for everyone he is unable to use it.  Apparently, its powers are isolated to the Marvel Universe, which was good from everyone.

http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/6/63715/2416695-darkseidsu7.jpg

Powerlevel
Thanos's power level is very high.  He can pretty take on any character in the Marvel Universe and with the infinity gauntlets has literally taken on every character in the universe.

Powers:
Super strength
Super durability
Longevity - approaching immortality
Genuis level intelligence

Sometimes Thanos has been shown to use:
Telekinesis
Teleportation
Energy projection and manipulation

Thanos Marvel Cinematic Universe

Thanos is played in the Marvel Cinematic films by actor Josh Brolin. Thanos has appeared in the films Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers 2 Age of Ultron, Avengers 3 Infinity War.  He will make another appearance in Avengers 4.

Thanos is obessed with an idea that half of the life in the universe must die so that the other half can live.  He feels strongly that if half do not die then all will die.  To accomplish this he seeks out God like powers that are provided through the Infinity Stones.  Each stone grants the holder immense powers control over time, space, etc. When combined together they give user the ability to complete his goal of wiping out half of life.

Thanos in the films has a variety of armies at his disposal including the Chitauri.  He also utilisizes a super powered elite group called the Dark Order to accomplish tasks.

He has two daughters he has raised as part of his Children in Gamora and Nebula also are used as agents until they rebel against him.

Appearances:

Avengers 1 film: He made a brief appearance in the after credit scene of the Avengers.  Thanos provided Loki with the Chitauri Scepter with Mind Infinity Gem attached.  It was also one of his armies that invaded Earth at the behest of Loki.
Did Loki have the Mind Infinity Gem in the Avengers?

Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude Comic: In the comic Marvel Prelude #1 we see a Thanos more focused on Strength and ridding oneself of weakness than a focus on Death.
Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Prelude #1

Guardians of the Galaxy film:  Thanos appears as a major cosmic force in Guardians of the Galaxy however he is not the primary villain of the film Ronan is.  Thanos is using Ronan to hunt for one of the Infinity Stones however Ronan betrays him.  Both Nebula and Gamora the rebellious daughters of Thanos are introduced in this film as well.

Avengers 2 Age of Ultron:  There are few hints of Thanos imbedded into the film notably a dream sequence of Tony Stark that hints at the end and deaths of the Avengers.  Thanos appears at the end credits of the film and he pulls out the Guantlet and says sometimes you need to do things yourself.  This seems to indicate that he believe the mind stone's power would destroy the Avengers through something like Ultron.

Avengers 3: Infinity War.  Thanos is the primary villain of this series.  He and his agents attempt to acquire all of the Infinity Stones.  In the end he is successful and snaps his fingers wiping out half of the life in the universe.

Who is Jughead?

Jughead is the best friend of Archie the main character from Archie comics.  He has appeared in TV, comics, radio shows and comics since his first appearance in the 1940s.  Jughead is played by actor Cole Sprouse in the C.W. TV series Riverdale.

First Appearance:  Pep Comics #22 (1941)

Full Name: Forsythe Pendleton Jones III

Hometown: Riverdale

High School: Riverdale High School

Archie News:

Archie Multimedia:

Bio:

Jughead is a smart, sardonic, easy going, and generally idiosyncratic teenager in Riverdale High School.  His oddness often makes him something of an outsider in town but this does not seem to bother him.  Despite their differences he is best friends with Archie Andrews.  Jughead is a new kid in town and befriends Archie early in his highschool career.  He often helps Archie get out of problems that he has gotten himself into.

Jughead is depicted as having a long nose and is constantly wearing an S marked sweatshirt and a crownlike beanie called a whoopie cap.  The meaning behind the S on his sweatshirt is a mystery though in one comic he says it stands for "soup, sandwich, steak and all kinds of goodies!", other possibilities are the name of a cousin, and a former high school he attended prior to Riverdale.  In one comic he says the S is for, "Stop asking".

Jughead plays the drums in the garage band the Archies.

Considered as being odd in Riverdale he is often the target of bullying and pranks.  However, he often manages to hold his own and defeat attackers with his wit.   Many stories revolve around prank competitions between Jughead and the school's super jock Reggie with Jughead often cleverly winning.  While Reggie and Jughead have adversial relationship they are also often depicted as being friends.

Veronica often clashes with Jughead because she can't stand his laid back style.  He in turn sees her as a snob.

Jughead rarely gets into romantic relationships and often cites them as complicating life.  This is likely due to him watching Archie's struggles with his love triangle relationship with Betty and Veronica.  Jughead often expresses a true love for food (Usually cheeseburgers) and is often seen consuming a copious amounts of food.  His love for food has been explained in some stories as a mechanism for covering his nervousness around girls or overcoming depression.  Despite his copious amounts of eating Jughead remains skinny this is often attributed to an abnormally high metabolism.

In one comic universe Jughead is depicted as being A-sexual.  However, this is canon in all Archie comic universes.

Official Synoposis below:
A subversive take on Archie and his friends, exploring small town life, the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome facade.
Riverdale Bio:

Jugheads is the highschool outsider and an aspiring writer and journalist.  He serves as the narrator for the show.  He is shown researching the death of Jason Blossom, which is the major story in the small town of Riverdale.

Archie has fallen out of friendship with his former best friend Jughead.  Jughead reveals that he knows about Archie's relationship with Miss Grundy and urges him to come forward and do the right thing.   The two have a fight over this.

Despite, the personal problems brewing in their friendship the pair remain loyal to each other when the next day Archie stands up for Jughead.  Reggie is making wise cracks about the death of Jason Blossom in which he targets Jughead as the likely perpetrator due to his oddness.  Archie defends Jughead and tells Reggie to back off.  Archie pushes Reggie who responds by throwing Archie into a vending machine and punching him hard giving him a large shiner.

Jughead witnesses Archie having a tense conversation with Miss Grundy and smiles because he can tell Archie is standing up for what is right.  The two run into each other and Archie asks if they are still friends.  Jughead sardonically says they will need to discuss it over many, many hamburgers.   They run into Betty and Veronica at Pops where they all sit down to enjoy ice cream sodas and likely a lot more in the case of Jughead.

The drive in theater that Jughead works at is closing down after an anonymous buyer placed a large offer for the theater.   The theater had been struggling since a local gang the Southside Serpents began using it as a place to hang out.  In the end it is revealed that Jughead had been trying to save the theater because he is homeless and had been using the theater to sleep at.  As he is leaving he is confronted by his father who is the leader of the Southside Serpents.

Interview with Cole Sprouse on Jughead:
Cole Sprouse is well known for his work on Disney in the show Suite Life of Zack and Cody.  In Riverdale he plays a much tonally darker character.  He was interviewed by Abraham Reisman of the Vulture about his role as Jughead and had a variety of insightful things to say.   The full interview can be found at:

A few exerpts from the interview:

On why Jughead is used as the narrator:
"...He’s more objective than the rest of the town. He is now, especially within this universe, a character that fits on the outside of his society, and I think that gives him an interesting perspective on the inner workings of it. "
On who Jughead is:
"...He’s almost an imaginary friend, not like a real character. But in this, we still very much try to deal with Jughead as this cynical, sardonic, objective character. He’s very much on the outside. And, much like real comedians or real jokesters or real cynics, Jughead has a troubled past. But we still keep the fundamental basis of Jughead strong."
On Donald Trump and Riverdale:
"...what it means to be representing such a fundamental, all-American kind of narrative with this platform of Donald Trump being a return to an all-American understanding. I haven’t really come to a conclusion about what it means, but the timing could not be more uncanny. Whenever someone says, or whenever someone harkens back to, a golden age of the U.S. — usually the ‘40s or ‘50s — 90 percent of the time, they’re a straight white man."
"I think Archie fits within this very interesting place, where the first iteration of those comics came out of that same exact time period. That also puts us in a perfect position to try and show the reality of that narrative. Archie holds a responsibility upon itself as a product of this “golden age,” which is something I think we need to recognize and accept and confront."
