Riverdale Season 2 Spoilers

Please Share and Follow us on Twitter!

Alright Riverdale Season 1 is over and hints for season 2 are incoming  I think enough time has passed that I can talk about Season 1 without spoiling it for most fans.  If you haven't seen it then go watch it then come back.  If you don't I am going to spoil the crap out of everything for you.  So Spoiler Alert.

Riverdale Season 2 comes out Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. on The CW.

First Pictures of Hiram played by Mark Consuelos.   He looks a lot cooler than the comic version can we all agree on that? Conseuelos describes his character like Jaws. saying ;“I like to say he’s like Jaws,” .... “You didn’t see him. You knew he was there. There’s danger there. His presence is felt.”

He also discusses some of Hiram's motivations:

“He loves loves loves his family and he’s fiercely protective over all of that and anything that has anything to do or comes into contact with his family. Also, he probably loves power a little bit too. He’s enamored with that.”

Hiram will also start playing some games with Veronica's boyfriend Archie. Conseulos says:

“Is he manipulating him or is mentoring him? Is he mentoring him or is seeing what he’s made of? You really really don’t know, and I think that’s the fun part.”

Riverdale Motive Trailer

SDCC 2017 Season 2 Trailer
At San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2017 a trailer for Riverdale's new season was released.  The who shot Archie's dad mystery seems to permeate the conversations for the next season.
One other interesting, maybe akward Archie news item is that Sega broke its relationship with Archie Comics right before SDCC 2017.  There were very few (None?) archie comic panels so I was not able to gather more information about the split.  Sonic had been one of the better selling comics of Archie Comics but Archie has also had a major resurgence due to Riverdale.  So is Archie Comics in trouble?  I don't think so but it is worth watching.  It could be a sign that Archie Comics is about to be bought by one of the bigger players (Which would likely be Marvel/Disney).
Sega says they play to do something different with the Sonic Comics and what is still not clear.  The story line in the current comics is not likely to play out though.

Hiram Lodge is Incoming!

Hiram Lodge is confirmed for Season 2.   In the comics Hiram has generally not liked Archie.  In the show there may be a lot of bad blood due to Hiram's wife and Archie's dad having a fling.  Generally, that is a good way to get one someone's bad side.  It sounds like Hiram is going to have a very dark bad side as well.  In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Riverdale's Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said:

“Hiram is a family man, he loves and treasures his wife and especially his daughter. But there’s no denying that we’ve built up someone who has very dark dealings and who has a criminal past. He’s not like the Serpents, who are a street-level gang. He’s operating at a much higher level and has tentacles everywhere. The questions will be: Is Hiram truly reformed? What does he want? How does Veronica figure into his plans? How will Archie figure into his plans?”

RIVERDALE SPOILERS! and Set up For Season 2

Alright the goal of this post is to go over where the show left in season 1, look ahead toward season 2 and also just shoot the proverbial Sh#$ about Riverdale.

Alright so Riverdale dropped some bombs during its last 2 episodes.
First, the Coopers are related to the Blossoms and simply changed their name.  This means that Polly's relationship with Jason was almost incestual as they were 2nd or third cousins or something like that.

Then it was revealed that Clifford Blossom killed his own son Jason because the latter was going to reveal the true family business of the Blossom family.  The Blossoms pretended to be owners of a Maple Syrup company but the reality was that the whole thing was a front for a drug distribution business.  With the truth revealed Clifford seems to kill himself in the warehouse of Maple Syrup (Seems to...because its possible he was forced to fall on his sword).  The police find drugs in the  family warehouse and all of the secrets of the Blossoms seem to finally be out.  Cheryl then sets the entire Blossom estate on fire.

Cheryl attempts suicide by walking onto an icey river.  In the water she sees a ghost of Jason.  She is then rescued by Archie.  It is hard to know if the appearance of Jason's ghost was meant as a hallucination or is potentially setting up some supernatural elements that could appear later with the inclusion of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The the final cliff hanger happens.  Fred and Archie are eating at Pops! when a gun man attacks the restaurant.  During the fracas Fred is shot and is left bleeding on the floor of the diner.  It seems that it is implied that Fred was the target of the gunman and the robbery was just a cover.  Previousily, Fred had entered into a agreement to work with the Lodge's.  When Hiram attempted through his wife Hermoine to buy out Fred's stake, Fred refused.  Hermoine had also been seeing Fred romantically while Hiram was in prison.  It seems possible that Fred was targeted by either Hiram or Hermoine for not selling his stake of the venture.  As Fred is left bleeding on the floor it is unclear who shot him, why, and if he will live or die.

In short the the questions you are left wondering?
  • What happens with Coopers now that the truth of their connection with Blossoms is known?
  • What happens to the Blossom particulary Cheryl with the truth of their real business known?
  • Who was behind the shooting of Fred?
  • What will happen with Hiram Lodge getting out of jail?
  • Will Fred live?
  • What will happen with Archie's and Veronica's romantic interest if Veronica's family is behind shooting his dad.
  • While not directly hinted at will Sabrina show up and will she bring some supernatural elements with her?
Show writer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa tweeted out the first big hint of what happens in Season 2.  It is a picture of  Producer Draft that includes the first episode of season 2's title as well as a picture and both have more meaning than you might immediatly realize.

The picture in the producers draft comes directly from a comic cover where Archie is shot and killed in Pops.   This appears in Life of Archie #36 and the only change to the picture is that in the comic version the milkshake was spilled and it was chocolate brown while as in this version it is clearly red like blood.

The fact that Archie's death in the comic is so similar as to what happened to Fred can not be coincidence.  The fact that Archie died in the comic and that they made the cover even more forebodying does not say good things about Fred's chances.  However, I do think that if they kill Fred and start Season 2 off with a murder it could feel like a rehash of season 1.  So there is a chance they might avoid doing it just for that reason.

The other interesting hint as to where Riverdale is going is in the name of the title of the episode itself. Its called a "A Kiss Before Dying".

There are a novel and two noir films by this name one from 1959 and one from 1991.  In the 1956 version a man tries to woo a wealthy socialite purely to get her money.  When she gets pregnant he realizes she will be disinherited by her family and so he murders her and stages her death as a suicide.  He then tries to woo her sister but she slowly realizes that he knew and likely murdered her sister.  She then manages to get vengance on him and escape his clutches.  The 1991 version is fairly similar though it goes deeper into the why the man focuses on this particular family.

My immediate thought about the meaning is that it references Fred's relationship with Hermoine and how he is trying win over the socialite.  The other thought is that it references Archie's own wooing of Veronica Lodge.  The obvious difference is that in the film the man wooing the socialite is the villain of the story.  Here the man doing the wooing is the victim.  At either rate the title even on its face hints at both romance and death.  One other thought on the title is that Polly is pregnant and the story of "A Kiss before Dying" first victim was pregnant.  Its possible there is an angle to this there as well.  You never know with this show!

What ever happened to the Youtube/Spreaker Riverdale Podcast?

Alright I have mentioned the creation of a Youtube show specifically based around following Riverdale and it was going to be called Riverdale Burger Party.  The idea of the show would be fans talking about both the show and their favorite Cheese Burgers because Jughead/Pops! Cheeseburgers yeah it all just seemed to go together nicely and would be fun.

I got a script together, picked my first Cheese Burger to devour and got some special guests schedule I was ready to roll with this thing.  I even began to design Burger Party Theme T-Shirts.

HOWEVER it would not got as planned, as I am driving home getting ready to record the first episode disaster struck.  A hose in my car came loose and alas there were no burgers, no podcast, and I left people out high and dry.  After that it was just hard to get the people I wanted together to do it, and it fell apart.  Like getting this thing together just ended up being as crazy as Riverdale itself and something was always coming up.  That said I have NOT given up on the idea.  I love Cheese Burgers and Riverdale and this thing may still happen!
