One of my favorite movies is going to get a remake, The Magnificent Seven! Sometimes I cringe at the thought of a classic movie being remade but I am genuinely excited for this.
"You're like the wind, blowing over the land and ... passing on ... ¡Vaya con Dios!"
The Original Magnificent 7 was filmed in 1960 and a western remake of an Akira Kurosawa's film Seven Samurai. I could talk about the similarities between the various warrior archetypes of the Samurai, Knight, and Gunslinger all day but it is suffice to say that there are deep, cultural defying, values that seem to unite warriors of different stripes, times and places. This is a story about that deep bedrock of warrior values.
What battles are worth fighting for?
What is worth dying for?
How does a warrior win?
The film features a motley band of 7 American gunfighters, who cross over to Mexico to defend a small village. They do this even though the mission is suicidal, the pay if very poor, the villagers are strangers, and even belong to a different country.
The original film featured some great Western actors like Charles Bronson and Steve Mcqueen. The new film's cast is starting to look very promising.
Actors so far signed up.
Denzel freaking Washington
Ethan freaking Hawke
Chris freaking Pratt
Now that is one heck of a cast that is already signed up for this.
Bottomline: Look out for this movie, I was pumped to see it prior to the casting announcements, now I am just downright giddy. It is beginning to look like one of those movies that you just know is going to be good.
