Scottie Young will be at the helm of a new Rocket Raccoon ongoing series.  Yes, folks Marvel is waking up the Rocket Raccoon take over effect and giving the pesky gun toting raccoon his own ongoing series.  The series will not come out until July, which coincidentally will be right before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie comes out in August.

Here are some preview pictures of the comic.  In one scene it appears Groot will be battling in the ring, while Rocket hams it up in the stands.

Rocket Racoon #1

I think Scottie Young's art work is a great match for Rocket Raccoon.  I would describe his artwork as light, fun, cartoony.  His style will make you think about the old Saturday morning cartoons.  I know him from his artwork on the Wonderful Wizard of Oz series.  His style has some purposeful roughness to it that often adds to a sense of fun and movement.   I think he will really capture both aspects of cute and crazy with Rocket Raccoon.   Young's art often trends to the quasi realistic or perhaps surrealistic which should also lend itself to the Rocket Raccoon story.  The book will not likely be explicitly all ages, but I think it will draw in many young people.  Let me restate that.  I think this book will draw in all kinds of people.  The movie is going to create a massive Raccoon love affair.  It will definitely be a book that I could see my kids getting into.

In an interview with MTV Scottie Young described his fun cartoon style that will be featured in the book

I think it's going to have a connection to that nostalgic feeling for 'Looney Tunes,' that old animated flavor where everything wasn't squeaky clean, you know? Daffy Duck would get his bill blasted off with double barrel shotguns,...That's what I grew up watching, and being able to play around with that in this hyper-superhero intergalactic universe will be a lot of fun.

Some may not like the cartoony style of Young.  However, having read the old 80s Rocket Raccoon limited series I can say that the style fits Rocket Raccoon and his world perfectly!  Rocket Raccoon and his bizarre animal pals and bizarre Half World were created to give Hulk something new and different.  You can only throw big big and bigger guys at Hulk for so long.  Rocket Raccoon was used to throw something weird and different at the Hulk as a bit of a change up.

 Premise of the Series:
Rocket is now a wanted felon and being chased around the galaxy along with his loyal, friend Groot.

Asgardian Artifacts in Agents of Shield

It looks like we will see a second Asgardian Artifact make an appearance on Agents of Shield.
The first was the Berserker staff from the episode "The Well."  In the upcoming episode of Agents of Shield that features Sif it looks like we will see an Asgardian circlet.  It looks like Sif already has this artifact and I am wondering if it able to counter the spell/potion that Lorelei will likely end up using.  Perhaps, it keeps males hormones in check.  Not joking here as Lorelei is infamous for using love potions.

I am looking for mentioning of the circlet and can't find much.
There is a Friggas Circlet item mentioned in the Marvel Heroes game. Frigga's Circlet

UPDATE after episode of Yes Man
Well the Circlet is actually a collar that restricts the powers of Lorelei.  It is Asgardian however it was never given a name.  I have a strong inkling that this collar will turn up again along with Lorelei.  By no means do I think we have seen the last of her.

Here are both covers:

Review of Leaves in the Wind #1

I experienced both Love and Frustration over this book.  First a rush of exhilaration at being able to see where the characters are, and the results of their actions in the Serenity movie.  Anger came though because it just felt too short.  It is the typical, #1 setting up villains, new allies, and catching us up on both the macro events.  All that set up left little room for the reader to catch up with the beloved Firefly characters.  A great deal has happened to them since we left them and when we do spend time with them we are also being forced to catch up.  This is a fairly petty complaint though.  The reality is that there is a great deal to catch up on and the comic chooses to get this out of the way early on.

I do wonder though what would have happened if they had chosen a different approach.  Instead, of explaining the macro happenings upfront, what if they they allowed the reader to discover these macro events along with the reader.  They could have used it as a mystery, and we could have wondered about it along with the crew.

The advantage of what they did is by getting all of the set up out of the way, they are now free for the rest of the story to be filled with adventure.

That is a certainly a fun place to be in, and leaves a lot to look forward to.  I can't wait for Feb 26th.

Art:
George Jeanty is the man.  It is not easy making comics look like real people and he does it again.  He maintains their the look of the actors right down to their body movements and facial emotions.  Not an easy assignment and once again he thrives.  If their were any errors in the ship or crew I did not see them.

More marvel character news and theories

Short answer - No, I definetly do not think so.  It just does not seem to fit the character.

Still there is theory out there that she could be and she is a fan favorite.  I would also say that she could appear in the show in the near future. So lets take a closer look at it.

Reasons why the Enchantress could be the Clairvoyant
1) She has a high level of magical powers and knowledge which could allow her to be a Clairvoyant.
2) She also may not like to be touched.  She is really good looking and is constantly swatting boys hands away.  Granted she seems perfectly capable of touching and even seducing people when she wants to.  Po the creepy general mentioned to Raina (The girl in the flower dress) that the Clairvoyant does not like to be touched.  I still have not figured out exactly what that means. It was a clue that Clark Gregg himself pointed out though.
3) Asgardians have now been in two episodes of agents of Shield.  The new Sif/Lorelei episode and Bersker Staff episode so Asgardians are at least around and causing trouble.
4) Her sister Lorelei is being introduced which certainly means the more notable Amora the Enchantress exists somewhere in the Universe.
5) The character would work on TV.  All you would need is a good looking blonde actress and a green dress. The character has been featured in a lot of high quality Cosplay already see below.

Reasons Not
1) The character does not fit into the Hydra/Centipede/Technology subterfudge world.  That really is it. Could the character pull off being the Clairvoyant...YES.  Would she?  No.

What is GH 325?

There are four primary questions about Agent Coulson:
A) How did he come back to life?
B) How did he become a high level agent being so nice?
C) Does he have, or will he develop Super Powers
D) How did he get Lola his flying car.  (Ok I want to know this one at least)

How did Coulson come back to life:

What we know
In the Avengers Coulson is stabbed by Loki through his heart and is seemingly killed.  In agents of shield it is revealed that he is still alive.  Through out the beginning of AoS series there is an ongoing joke on how he recouped from the wound in Tahiti.  He would always say, "It is a magical place."  What we do know is that he was never in Tahiti.  The Tahiti memories were faked to hide from him the extreme pain he was in after whatever brought him back brought him back.  TAHITI is the code name of the room that housed the alien whose blood derives the serum GH325.  GH stands for Guest house.  I am not sure what TAHITI stand for or the 325 references.
What is GH 325?

There is a picture of him shown with his head open and a machine poking around in his brain.  I assume this was just to add the fake memory but could be part of the technology used to bring him back to life.

Theories:
LMD

Coulson is life model decoy a LMD.  In the marvel universe Life Model Decoys are androids that are typically used as stand ins by Dr Doom/ Nick Fury to hide while they are some where else.  If Coulson is a LMD he is a very sophisticated one. One reason to believe he is in a LMD is that he continually mentions that he lost his muscle memory.   Another supporting theory is that he would turn out to be the Vision.  We now know he will not be the Vision so this theory is pretty suspect.  If he was an LMD he would also have great strength, speed which he does not appear to have.  Another problem with this theory is that when we see his brain operated on it looks organic and not like an android.

Terrigen Myst-Inhuman DNA
This seemed like a wild idea at first but there is some substance behind it.  One huge reason is Clark Gregg tweeted out the word "Inhuman" which of course could simply mean Inhumane but I could not help but think of the Inhumans.  I have heard that Clark Gregg has been a major student of the Marvel universe and knows much more about it than the casual fans would suspect.  To me this name drop was on purpose.  Decide for yourself:
Clark is being sly

The Inhumans also could be brought into the Marvel Universe with Guardians of Galaxy movie.  Making it much less of a stretch to see some of the cosmic aliens show up on Agents of Shield.

At first I thought this could have meant a random Inhuman technology or their Terrigen Myst.  In episode Tahiti they revealed that the Serum that brought back Caulson  TAHITI was an alien looking body.  It could have been a Kree but I really think it was one of the Inhumans.  For more on GH325 see link below:
What is GH 325?

History of the Myst

Extremis/Centipede/Deathlok Tech

Possibly the same technology he is hunting down is the same technology that was used to bring him back to life.  One problem is that he shows no signs of Extremis/Centipede/Deathlok technology being used on him.  He doesn't glow, and he is not super strong.  He is also not sporting any cybernetic parts which would lead one to think of the Deathlok program.

Alien Technology- Asgardian/ Chitauri

Clark's tweet of Inhuman could simply mean non human and reference the most well known aliens in the Marvel universe the Asgardians or the villains in the Avengers the Chitauri.  Technology from both races has already referenced in the show and this certainly remains a strong possibility.

Is Ward going to become Wonderman

Will the Overkill Mind be a villain in Agents of Shield?

Update:
A lot has happened with Ward since I wrote the original post below.  Primarily it has been revealed that Ward is loyal to Garrett (The Clairvoyant) and a member of Hydra. He then went on to assassinate numerous Shield agents including Victoria Hand.

Does this rule him out as Wonderman?

No, not necessarilyThe Wonderman in the comics actually starts out as a bad guy, who redeems himself and becomes good.  I think the question here though is how far is too bad to come back from.  Does killing people mean he is too far gone?  I am not sure.  I would love to hear your opinion on this.

There are still similarities so it could still happen it just seems less likely.   Ward really officially cashed his chips in at the evil casino.  Ward as a character is becoming deeper and darker with each episode.  There is still a massive mystery around his history.  We still don't know the exact story he has with his brothers.  It was hinted at in the "Well" and "Ragtag" episodes.

We know that Ward is in a weird spot at the end of series.  He was loyal to Garrett not Hydra and now Garrett is dead.   Now Ward is in custody after getting his butt kicked by Agent May.  I think it is very clear the show has plans for his character but what those are?  That is still a mystery.

Is Ward going to become Wonderman?
This is pure speculation but Ward in many ways resembles the Marvel character Wonderman.
One has to ask the question is it possible?   It would also have some potential implications for who the Clairvoyant is.  Wonderman's brother the Grim Reaper is one of the few characters in the Marvel Universe with clairvoyant powers.

Before we dig too deep lets look at the resemblance between Ward and Wonderman.
Wonderman

Agent Ward
Ward lookers taller and more slender but otherwise looks very similar to the comic character.  They even have similar hair.

Other similarities:
Both are very good, hand to hand, fighters.

Both Wonderman and Ward have an evil, sadistic brother.  In the episode "The Well" we learn that Ward's brother through his little brother into a well, then prevented Ward from trying to save him.  Wonderman's brother is the Grim Reaper.  The Grim Reaper is yin to his brothers yang.  Simon Williams/Wonderman maintains a virtuous existence while Erik Williams/Grim Reaper is consistently bad.  When Wonderman is presumed dead Erik Williams goes mad.  He tracks down the Tinkerer to make him suite and then adds a weapon that was created by Ultron to it, then hunts down the Avengers to get vengeance.  What happened to Ward's older brother?  We do not know yet...

One other reason to suspect a potential Wonderman connection is that both Vision and Ultron are now going to be a part of Avengers 2.   Both characters have connections to Wonderman.
Visions mental pattern is actually based off the mental pattern stored when he was thought to be dead.  Part of the reason that Vision falls in love with the Scarlet Witch is that Wonderman himself was attracted to her.

Who will Skye become question HUB?

Who is Skye going to become?

From the very beginning, Marvel's Agents of Shield focused on the character Skye.  It seems clear with her mysterious past and 084 status she is meant to be more than a simple computer hacker.
The speculation is that Skye could become a well known hero from the Marvel Universe.  The current leading theory is that she may become Jessica Drew aka Spiderwoman.  Marvel has been careful not to reveal too much, but what they have revealed is certainly interesting:

GH325 the serum that saves Skye

Who is Abigail Brand? Skye?
Who is Mantis?
What is GH 325

Who are the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Potential characters Skye could be:
Based off of the serum GH325 and its origins (See Post what is GH325) I am leaning toward Skye being Abigail Brand, Mantis or potentially an Inhuman.  One key thing is that she reacted differently to the GH325 than did Caulson.  Potentially, this is because she already shared some of its DNA?  This leads me to believe that she was an 084 because she is at least partially an alien.  This would lead to her being Mantis, Ms Marvel, or Abigail Brand.

Phyla Vel

If Caulson is Mar Vel then Skye could be Phyla Vel his daughter.  Her Kree physiology would explain why she reacted differently than he did to the serum.  Phyla Vel would be already very powerful though.  She is not a human/Kree hybrid where her powers would lay dormant and be hidden like potentially Mantis/ Abigail Brand.

Mantis:
Skye shares many many similarities with Mantis who is also a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the recent comic books.
 Who is Mantis?

Sage
Sage has a similar look and similar powers/expertise to Skye. Could Skye be Sage?
Who is Sage?

Ms Marvel
http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/138/0/a/comishart_s_ms_marvel___colors_by_stacyraven-d6401uc.jpgWho is Ms Marvel / Captain Marvel
Ms Marvel has Kree origins.  If GH 325 is a Kree then there is chance Skye is likely Ms Marvel.  The only problem with this is that Carol Danvers receives the Kree DNA from the Captain Marvel in an explosion accident.  She is not born an 084 (Object of unknown origin) alien special person as Skye apparently is.  Due to how Skye reacted less violently to the serum than Caulson it seems that she shares some kind of blood relation to the alien the serum was based on.  Ms Marvel does not have this kind of blood relation.  Ms Marvel also has no connections to China where Skye was found as a baby.

Jessica Drew
Jessica Drew also known as Spiderwoman seems to be one of the top theories at the moment lets analyze reasons why.

  • Jessica Drew fits into the spy/Shield/Hydra world.
  • She has a pheromone power that makes men act weird.  So far it seems as though most of the men have acted weird toward Skye at one point or another.  However, this could be that she is just hot plus up until recently not trust worthy.
  • She has been a double agent for a group outside of Shield ie the Rising Tide.  Jessica Drew was at one point a double agent between Hydra and Shield
  • Skye was shot and appears that she will be revived by a serum.  Jessica Drew was also brought back a serum.  Granted Jessica Drew gets Uranium poisoning and Skye was shot.

Jessica Drew's Powers: (Not the same as Spiderman's)
  • Superhuman Speed stamina, agility, reflexes, strength, smell, hearing, injury resistance.
  • Can cling to objects with palms and soles
  • Immune to almost all poisons, toxins, radiation.
  • She has Pheromones that can cause attraction in men and revulsion in women
  • Can emit bio energy blasts "venom blasts" that cause pain and unconsciousness
  • She can sometimes fly
  • Highly Trained in combat and espionage
Implications:

Well Jessica Drew has pretty cool powers, which could be fun to see on TV.  She is also connected with a variety of interesting characters.  One interesting question is will the High Evolutionary be brought into the show in some way.  In her initial origin the High Evolutionary was deeply involved with giving her powers and raising her.  It should be noted that the High Evolutionary is one of the few characters in the Marvel universe who truly possess a power of Clairvoyance.  This could lead some credence to the thought that the High Evolutionary is the Clairvoyant.

Is Skye Abigail Brand?
Who is Abigail Brand? Skye?

This theory actually has some things going for it.

Some solid Cosplay
1) Abigail Brand works for Shield, and so does Skye.
2)The serum GH 325 that brought Caulson back to life and will likely bring Skye back to life is Green and so is Abigail Brand's hair.
3)Abigail Brand actually gets her green hair from an alien father who has green fur.  Skye is an 084 and could very well be an alien's offspring.
4) Abigail brand is also half mutant that gives pyrokinetic powers.  While, this has not been shown in the show it could also have given Skye her 084 designation.
5) Abigail Brand was created by Joss Whedon in Astonishing X-men, the Whedon's like her.  The fact that he created her also gives him some liberties of changing her to fit into TV.

Brand explains her powers

Things to look for. Any sign of pyrokinesis would be a sure sign.  Abigail Brand has a tattoo of the words/names(Grace and Anna)  has on each bicep. She also has a brother who is green and fury.

Is Skye a long lost member of the Inhuman Royal Family?
Possibly if alien that is T.A.H.I.T.I. (See the GH325 post) is an Inhuman then she is likely of the same origin.  Nothing has been revealed yet about the Inhumans in the cinematic universe so it is hard to speculate on which exact character of the Inhumans she would be.

Is Skye She Hulk?

Reasons to think so:
1) The serum used to bring her back to life is green.
2) The serum is GH325 could that stand for Gammatized Hemoglobin.  Gamma rays being what created hulk and Hemoglobin as in Blood.  Essentially, Hulk blood.
3) Shield has some access to the Hulk with Banner as part of the Avengers.  They have tremendous access to Blonsky the Abomination as they are currently holding him. See-->  Agents of Shield Rogues Gallery
4) She hulk is Banner's cousin in the comic books.  She is given a blood transfusion of Hulk blood (gamma irradiated blood) that gives her a milder form of Hulks powers.  She holds onto her personality and intelligence when she transforms.

After watching the TAHITI episode I do not believe Skye will become she Hulk.  The origins of  GH325 appear extraterrestrial and not Gamma based.  GH seems to reference Guest House which is the facility that houses the extraterrestrial remains.  For more on this see What is GH 325?

Perhaps Skye will become the shoveler or prankster or Snow Shoveling Car Prankster.  You think I am being silly but look I have evidence!

What is GH 325

"After her mother was struck with a beam of radiation containing the DNA of several different types of spiders while she was in-utero, Jessica Drew developed superhuman powers patterned after several different types of spiders when she was born. Jessica is superhumanly strong and is able to lift around seven tons at her peak. She also possesses superhuman speed, stamina, agility, and reflexes. Jessica's body is more resistant to injury than an ordinary person, allowing her to take far more physical punishment compared to an ordinary human. Jessica also possesses superhuman hearing and smell, the latter of which allowed her to distinguish a life model decoy from the real Nick Fury.[volume & issue needed] Jessica's palms and soles secrete a special fluid that allows her to cling to solid objects, like a true spider. Jessica's physical makeup also makes her highly resistant to all terrestrial poisons, toxins, and completely immune to radiation. While she is typically rendered dizzy by the initial dose, she is completely immune to it after being exposed again. She also exudes a high concentration of pheromones that elicit pleasure and attraction in men and revulsion in women, although she typically uses a chemical "perfume" that renders these pheromones inert. Jessica's body also produces an inordinate amount of bio-energy, which she can discharge from her hands. She refers to these discharges as "venom blasts" although they actually have nothing to do with poison and typically cause pain and unconsciousness, and Jessica can kill a man in the same way that a lightning bolt would and can pierce solid metals like steel by using her blasts at their greatest intensity. Jessica was also able to glide through unknown means using the web-like extensions of her costume, but seems to have gained the power to fly after being replaced by the Skrull Queen Veranke. Jessica has lost her powers in numerous ways and on several occasions, but after returning to Earth at the end of the Secret Invasion, Jessica's powers were restored and are greater than ever.
In addition to her powers, she is also a superb hand to hand fighter, and has trained in several styles of fighting including boxing, judo, karate, and capoeira, learned under the training of the Taskmaster. She has also had training in fencing and the use of many other weapons. Jessica was trained by HYDRA (and later on by S.H.I.E.L.D.) in covert operations, stealth, espionage, and information gathering and is a superb athlete. She speaks several foreign languages, including Korean, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German. Jessica also received vocational training in undercover detective work and sometimes carried a Walther PPK handgun.

Hmm... so if Skye's really Jessica Drew, Skye being item 084 could be a result of serum/radiation testing on her while in the womb, then as a child she has a freak-out that kills over a hundred people or whatever it was (mentioned a few episodes ago) and she was taken in by SHIELD, her handler was the woman with the head-wound in the pics Skye was shown of her "mother"... so who knows what being put in that same container/tank Deathlok emerged from could do to her... crazy powers emerging? Whoa.
