If you remember my only beef with Batgirl 28 and 29 was that there should have been at least one more book devoted to the Silver / Strix plotline.  Well, after reading Batgirl 30 I wonder if Gail is working on a bigger supernatural arc and is just planting some seeds for a larger masterplan.

Here we are in Batgirl #30 and we have another supernatural based threat.   Do you remember going into the bathroom and beckoning Bloody Mary to pop out of the mirror and murder you.  OF course you tried it, even though you were sure and damn well hoped it didn't work.  Imagine what would have happened if it did work.

Batgirl uses an EMF reader that detects supernatural energies and all of a sudden it goes haywire leading her to a house where a group of teenagers innocent fun has turned into a horror movie.

Gail asks the question why do we do these things?  For the Thrill.  She wraps this into Barbara internal monologue of explaining Barbara herself and why she dons the cowl.  Why do we like to scare ourselves with horror movies, or with scary myths like Bloody Mary, for the thrill.
Babs also thinks about watching horror movies at the mansion with the Robins.   She beings to compare herself to the Robins and we see Babs self defining her placement in the Batverse.  She is not a Robin, she is her own Bat with her own wings, she is her own epicenter, her own story in this crazy city that is Gotham.  There is always a struggle to make Batgirl not simply be Batman as a girl, but her own separate character with her capabilities, reasons, and emotions.  I don't know if Gail got out all that she wanted to on this topic but this issue certainly marks a start.

The action sequences were tight and tactical.  Barbara creates her strategy and methodically employs it to bring down the monster quickly...perhaps too quickly?

The book ends with slap to face.  I am already looking forward to Batgirl #31
