Review of Batman Eternal #1

Where to begin with this book.  It is fairly old at this point but I saw it and was curious and picked it up.  I have heard of the Joker's daughter ruling in the sewers/nethers of Gotham and was intrigued enough to pay 5 bucks to read it.
Verdict - I did not like at all.
I will try to do an honest review of it.

Finds Joker's face

So the Jokers daughter is ruling the sewers, who is she?
Basically an insane spoiled teenager who hates beautiful things so she tries to make herself ugly.  She runs away from home, finds the cut off face of the joker, smooshes it on her face.  Then Takes over the sewers from the crazy people there.  The crazy people don't put up much of a fight.  Why?  Supposedly because she has Joker's face.  That seems pretty farfetched.

She turns the crazy women on the men and puts the women in charge.  YAY girl power....wwwait.  The guy in charge goes by the name Charon.  Charon actually seemed kind of cool and nice.  Then she goes around burning jokers smiles into everyone's faces. Not really a girl power moment.  Maybe it was supposed to be but it comes across more as a WTF  just happened moment.  It all feels like a very shallow, stupid take on Patriarchy and Matriarchy but it is a poor analysis of both.

The book contains her origin which tries to explain her psychosis and add depth.  It is hard to add depth when all you hear is a whiny spoiled kid. Lots of self mutilation and gross out moments so if you are into that then this character is the one for you.

I don't find the character believable, relatable, understandable, or any other able.

Is she meant to be a new Harley Quinn?  I really like Harley Quinn but this Joker Daughter character is just too over the top and gross for me.
To be honest on this book and play devils advocate with myself I need to ask the question.  Do I as a guy not like this character because it is an "Ugly" female and if it was an ugly male  would I like the character more?
I don't think so.  I really don't like the idea of self mutilation be it a guy or a girl.  I don't like the faceless joker I just think it is an unnecessary gross out.  The kind of stupid stunts that writers do when they run out of good ideas.

The art is ok, and did not get in the way of the story...though perhaps it should have.

My advice - Skip it - Get Batman Eternal or Batgirl instead

How will Rick and Company escape Terminus? Walking Dead

Season 4 ends with a cliff hanger.  Surprise surprise.

Do these lines sound familiar?

What is Terminus?
Where is Beth?
Who is Gareth?

The Situation:

Rick, Michonne, Carl, Daryl, Abraham, Glenn, Rosita, Eugene, Sasha, Bob, Tara, Maggie are all held in a Terminus train car.

They are likely being held to be eaten.  The termites will only feed them powdered milk until the Termites are ready for them.

The train cars seem to be mobile on the rail tracks.  There is another car full of trapped people inside the compound.

The group in the train car has no weapons on them.  The Termites are very well armed.  However, what the Termites don't know is that Rick just ripped a man's throat out with his teeth.

Rick has hidden as a cache of weapons just outside the walls of Terminus

There are some characters not at Terminus that could potentially help them.  Beth (Whereabouts unknown), Tyrese, Carol, Judith, and Morgan.  Morgan did not seem very sane last time he was featured but he may have recovered some.

http://www.celebdirtylaundry.com/wp-content/uploads/the-walking-dead-spoilers.jpgThere are also some characters like Jesus, Father Gabriel that they have not met that could help them.

Rick is not scared at all.  In fact he seems to already have a plan.
The Question: How do you think they escape? Any Ideas? What would you do?

My Idea:

My thought is that the Termites go to great lengths to keep their captives from dieing and turning.  SO start screaming that someone has died and is turning.  Get the termites to open the doors.
Draw them in.  The somehow lock the doors open.  Have Rick chew through someones neck.  Escape and get to the hidden cache of guns buried outside of the walls.

Then attack pull down the fences and make tons of noise let the noise and down walls draw in a huge crowd of walkers.  Maybe have some car horns going off.

Then leave and let the herd do its work.  Bye bye Terminus

Below is a picture of Rick from next season.  It sure looks like Rick is coming up with a plan.

Agent Triplett is related to a Howling Commando. Which one?

Gabe Jones
I am really enjoying the character Agent Triplett and his character was given a little more depth over the past few episodes.

In the episode "The only Light in the Darkness" it is revealed that Antoine Triplett is related to one of the howling commandos.   Specifically, his grandfather was one of them.  It was not revealed which Howling Commando this was so we have to guess a bit.

The fact that Gabe Jones is the only (well known) African American Howling Commando would be a strong indicator that he is Triplett's grandfather  Additionally, Gabe Jones spoke fluent French and this is perhaps a clue leading to the french sounding name of Triplett.

This is the most likely option.

However, the fact that Marvel did not call out Gabe Jones by name has me wondering if Marvel is going to tease us a bit.

2 generations is more than enough for any of the commandos to be potential grandfather candidates to Triplett.

So who else makes sense.

Well Rogers and Bucky are out because they were not around.

Nick Fury?
Now Nick Fury in this universe is African American and could have a relation to the Howling Commandos?  I am not sure exactly.  I believe in the ultimate' s universe Nick Fury fights in WW2 in Sicily and is not a Howling Commando.   His aging is slowed by project rebirth allowing him to lead SHIELD well into the 21st century.  I don't think Nick Fury is Tripplet's grandfather because Nick Fury is Nick Fury and is known for more than his WW2 service.  So lets cross him out as well.

Rogers leading the commandos

Other major candidates:
  • Dum Dum Dugan - Big American Howling Commando was a circus strongman prior to signing for WW2 and becomes Sgt Fury's right hand man in the comics.
  • Montgommery Falsworth - British Howling Commando in the comics becomes Union Jack.  His son also becomes Union Jack.  It would be interesting if Tripplet ended up becoming a version of Union Jack.
  • Jim Morita - Japanese American fighter freed by Captain America and joins the howling Commandos
  • Jaquese Dernier - French Resistance fighter freed by Captain America and joins the Howling Commandos

I am going to put my money on Jaquese Dernier just because it may explain the french name and would make for a great story.

Agent Triplett puts his Grandfather old spy toys to good use, see any identity clues?

Clues in the name Triplett

I don't think there is much here but some extra food for thought.

The name Triplett is french in origin and means dancer, or butcher.

There is one American Medal of Honor Recipient named Samuel Triplett.  Sam fought in the Spanish American war and received the highest award in the American military for de-mining 27 mines in Guantanamo bay.

Who is Yondu?

Who is Yondu?

 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/84/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_44.jpg

Yondu is a Marvel character who is the member of the first group known as Guardians of the Galaxy.

Comics Bio: (World unknown not 616)
http://www.bleedingcool.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/yondu-guardians-of-the-galaxy.jpg
Yondu exists in a different timeline than the normal Marvel universe.
Yondu is a member of a primitive alien race outside of Earth's solar system called the Centurians.   In the 31st century he comes into contact with time traveling human astronaut Vance Astro.  The two at first battle but end up joining forces to fight and escape the alien menace the Badoon.
The Badoon end up killing off all of the Centurians as well as pretty much all of the other races in the universe.  Yondu and Vance Astro join with the remaining survivors to form the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Powers and Abilities:
Very good with arrows
As a Centurian he is slightly stronger and  more durable than a human.
Yondu is a nature mystic and is in tune with all natural life.  He can feel disorder in an environment and is thus a very good tracker.
He is also great with a bow and is perhaps even better than the human Avenger Hawkeye.  He can whistle in different pitches that effect the trajectory of his arrows thus allowing them to curve and turn around corners, or through crowds of people.

Marvel Movie Universe Story:
Yondu will appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy Movie.  He is the only member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy set to appear in the film. He will be played by Michael Rooker who you likely know as Merle from Walking Dead.  Rooker has described his personality in the film as a "cad" a person who does not care about other's feelings.  However, he is an anti-hero in the film.

Pictures from the set below:
Rooker on set as Yondu

Multiple bodies in the background at wreck site, Sakaaran soldier up on hillside

I certainly do not know all of the details of the Yondu and StarLord story in the upcoming movie but I do know the following:
StarLord's story in movie is that his Mother dies sometime in the 1980s.  StarLord is raised by a blue alien Yondu.  Yondu is under orders to take the boy somewhere but he forms a connection with him and decides to raise him instead.  Starlord is effectively raised in a tough environment by Yondu in space.  Part of the reason why Starlord's walkman is important to him is that it is one of his last connections to earth.

Yondu is the leader of group of alien gang like a group of bikers called the Reavers.

This Yondu does not seem be from the 31st century, and is not be a natural mystic.  He does use an arrow that he can control by whistling similar to his comic form.

Starlord's Father?
Yondu can not be Starlord's father because he says he makes a deal with Starlord's father.
He calls his father a "Jack Ass."

“He’s very much a kid at heart,” said Chris Pratt of his role as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in early Guardians of the Galaxy press notes. “He’s never known his father, he’s sucked away into space just as his mother dies and is raised by a blue-skinned humanoid. He has spent all his life being told to toughen up and has a false sense of bravado as a result. But deep down he is lonely, and while he’s a guy traveling in space getting to do whatever he wants, he misses his family, his community, and through the course of the story he learns to care again and that there’s more to life than just taking and doing exactly what you want.” About that blue-skinned surrogate father of Peter Quill which Pratt referred to, it's of course Yondu, a Ravenger played by Michael Rooker in Guardians of the Galaxy. “It’s a beautiful story, a great uplifting story and I found the relationship between Quill and Yondu intriguing,” said The Walking Dead actor. “He went to pick him up from Earth and for some reason he decided not to take him where he was meant to go and raised him himself. He made a connection with him, and Yondu now enjoys the fact that Quill has the courage to do his own thing.”

It appears there will be at least 3 different Guardians of the Galaxy Lego sets.  Which makes sense as the movies theme with space ships, and space stations should work great with Legos.

I do not see a Korath the Pursuer mini which is somewhat disappointing.  Maybe there is another set out there that I am missing.  I would also not mind seeing something included more Nova corps members.

Hasbro Action Figures:

It is kind of interesting thing is what they did with Groot.   You can not buy Groot by himself instead a piece of Groot comes with each of the other characters and if you buy them all you can put him together.
Also interesting is that there is no Angela figure.
